Can you imagine Abraham's trip up to the mountain to sacrifice his son? They saddle up their donkey and begin their journey to the mountain. Scripture says that on the third day of the journey, Abraham finally sees the place of sacrifice in the distance. Three days is a long time to think about nothing else than sacrificing your son.
Slowly they walk up the mountain. Isaac asks, "Where is the lamb?" Abraham's response is 'God will provide'. You see, before Abraham was delivered from this situation, he believed that the Lord was Jehovah Jireh.
When God provided for Abraham on that day, Abraham didn't focus on the problem or the trial or the fear, he focused on the fact that he knew God would provide.
Why did God deliver Abraham on that day? When his knife was raised high in the air ready to sacrifice his son, was it a sudden whim on Abraham's part to start believing that the Lord would provide?
No! He believed it all along! |
